SIUE puts Miss Julie on the stage

Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s battle of the sexes comes to Edwardswille with SIUE’s production of Miss Julie directed by Jason Cannon.

Set on a midsummer night in 1874 on her father’s wealthy estate, a young woman attempts to escape an existence cramped by social mores and obligations.  She is attracted to a footman, a senior servant named Jean.  But Jean has his own desires and agenda.  Control swings back and forth over the course of the play as Miss Julie, Jean, and her father battle for control.

The play will be produced December 1-5 and 10-12 at SIUE’s Metcalf Theater.

December 1 – 4, December 10 – 11 at 7.30 pm and December 5 & 12 at 2 pm.
