Toy Drive at Santa’s House in Edwardsville

The Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group (YPG) will collect new toys and monetary donations to benefit children and families served by Children’s Home + Aid this Saturday, December 19, from 1-4pm at Santa’s House in Edwardsville City Park.

Children’s Home + Aid is a leading child welfare agency in the state of Illinois, serving approximately 40,000 children and families each year by helping them to overcome obstacles such as poverty, abuse and neglect.

Please join YPG members Saturday, December 19 and help make the holidays a little brighter for kids and families in need. Donations may also be dropped off at the Chamber office.

Edwardsville Holiday Arts Contest

The City of Edwardsville is inviting all children in kindergarten through 6th grade to participate in a holiday art contest. Two winners from each grade will be selected by the Edwardsville Arts Center and will receive a gift card in the amount of $20 for 1st place and $10 for 2nd place made possible by corporate sponsor First Clover Leaf Bank. Participants can color, paint or draw a picture no larger than 12×14 inches with one of the following themes: Holiday in Downtown Edwardsville, Holiday at Leclaire Park, Holiday at City Park, or A Family Holiday. Deadline for entry is Friday, December 18 at 5 pm. All entries must include name, address, phone number, grade & school (one per person).

Santa at the Edwardsville City Park

Grab the kids (or don’t) and come visit Santa and his elf at his house at Edwardsville’s City Park. Santa will be greeting boys and girls every Saturday from 1-4 pm and Wednesday from 5:30-8:30 pm until December 23rd. The visit is free but you can purchase a Polaroid picture in a keepsake frame for $3.

Pottery and Glass Sale at SIUE

This could be a great way to get some unique Christmas gifts this season in Edwardsville. SIUE holds its annual Wagner Potter’s Association Semi-Annual Pottery and Glass Sale on December 4-5 from 9 am to 5 pm both days at the Art & Design Building Atrium. You’ll be able to purchase beautiful handmade ceramic and glass pieces by our faculty, students, and friends.

SIUE Gets Crafty

The fact that SIUE is celebrating its 38th Annual Holiday Crafts Fair makes me think we should be looking out for more crafts-related events. Obviously, there must be some interest. The event is held on December 2 and 3 at SIUE’s Morris University Center. The fair is open from 9 am to 6 pm. Browse crafts made from ceramics, wood, weaving, fiber, metal and glass, among media.
