Halloween at Laurie’s

Laurie’s will start sidewalk service (weather permitting) at 4:30 pm on Halloween, in time for you to grab a bite and maybe polish off a few drinks before the parade. Starting at 9:30 pm, The Edge will be providing the tunes. There will be a costume contest, and of course lots of drink specials.

Halloween at The Stagger

The Stagger Inn Again celebrates Halloween with the usual traditions, drink and food specials, a costume contest and live music. The Heaters (a band that I can’t find one thing about on Google, sorry) will provide the tunes. Fun starts at 8 pm, music starts at 10.

SIUE Alumni Association Halloween Party

Join the SIUE Alumni Association for family fun before and after the Edwardsville Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 31st.

Cougars of all ages (as in the SIUE mascot) are invited to watch the parade from the corner of St. Louis Street and Johnson Street starting at 6:30 pm. Afterward, join the Alumni Association for treats, family activities and fun in the parking lot of Lucco, Brown Threlkeld & Dawson until 9 pm.

Bring your ghouls and goblins for free face painting and games. Pose for a complimentary photo in the family photo corner. And don’t miss the chance to win great prizes.

Mid-American Metal Fest Rocks Halloween

If there’s any music that really fits with Halloween’s dark side, it’s metal. And Doug Hulme, owner of Johnny’s Sidebar in Collinsville, is delivering what has to be a near-lethal dose of it this season.

Starting Friday night, he’ll be hosting a weekend of metal mania, with the Mid-American Metal Fest. The event includes twenty metal bands, ten a day for two days, starting at 5 pm both Friday and Saturday, and ending at 3 am both nights.

Doug gets animated when talking about the metal fest. To imagine Doug, envision a six-foot-three, fair-skinned gentle giant who handles his smile the way he pours his beer. That is, liberally. Dressed in a worn pair of pants and T-shirt, he breaks down the line-up of the show over a cup of coffee. Each night is heavy and hard-hitting, composed of all the elements: metal, speed metal, death metal, and brutal death metal.

“Everything!” Doug exclaims with a laugh.

“And,” he continues, “both Friday and Saturday night will have national acts going on around 1 am.”

On Friday night Lividity, (be forewarned, these guys aren’t rated PG) a famous “brutal death metal” band, headlines. Saturday night features Putrid Pile (see videos below).

“Which is great!” Doug says, “He’s a one man metal band, literally. People come all across the country to catch this guy’s act. It will be a big deal.”

Both Lividity and Putrid Pile are national acts that, even if you don’t like metal, are worth catching. Especially on Halloween.

“We’ve already pre-sold eighty bracelets,” Doug says, “But there will be plenty of bracelets available for walk ups on both Friday and Saturday.” Tickets are $15 at the door.

Halloween Havoc

Do you have your costume ready? This year’s first annual “Halloween Havoc” costume party promises to be a hit, so make sure you don’t miss it. Hot 104.1 will be in the building with D.J. Playboy Mixx giving you all the new unreleased Hip-Hop and R&B along with Mellow-D as hosting event. At midnight, they’ll start the “Sexy Costume” contest. Must be 21, with ID, to enter. Check it out at K.C. Hall in Edwardsville.

Pre-Halloween Bash at Big Daddy’s

Halloween isn’t just a one-day thing at Big Daddy’s, which is awesome if you went to any trouble putting together a costume (although a little troublesome for someone that has to find Halloween-related events photos). On Thursday, October 29, come down for costume awards, a live DJ (starting at 9 pm) and $2 Budweiser brand beer.

The Pillowman at SIUE

The Pillowman is great choice for theatre during Halloween week. It’s a black comedy about a man named Katurian, a fiction writer living in a police state who is interrogated about his horrific short stories, and their similarities to a number of bizarre child murders occurring in his town. The play has received numerous awards. Check it out at the SIUE’s Metcalf Theater starting on October 28 and ending Halloween. Goes from 7:30 to 10:30 pm.

Sigma Pi Haunted Trail

Want to be scared? Take a walk through the Sigma Pi Haunted Trail on the SIUE campus from Oct. 23 through 25. Admission for SIUE students $5, $7 for non-students. The trail opens at dusk.
